I am a Registered Psychotherapist who lost over 100 lbs and kept it off eight and a half years.* I help people who:

  • Eat emotionally, binge eat and/or have a food addiction;

  • Just want a normal relationship with food and their bodies;

  • Don't want one slip-up to lead to an entire binge, purge or downfall;

  • Constantly or obsessively think about their weight and/or food;

  • Weight cycle, have gained/lost hundreds of pounds in their lifetime;

  • Are any weight on the scale, whether in a thinner or heavier body;

  • Engage or think about any sort of binging, restrictive and/or purging;

  • Are pre- or post-bariatric surgery;

  • Wonder why they jeopardize their health and life.

I have been where you have been. I know it may seem challenging and even impossible. I take pride in being able to help, using an approachable and affable therapeutic style.

Long-Term weight loss means making a huge change when even the smallest change seems impossible.

The goal of psychotherapy for weight loss is to address this challenge. It is about discussing the things in your life, and in your mind, that block you from losing weight when you know you must do something to address it. Oftentimes, people become sick and tired of being sick and tired. Either their physical health is impacted by weight, or the amount of stress and anxiety people feel about their health becomes excessive.

Thinking Man

You’re probably here because you’ve tried to lose weight many times before and concluded your issues with weight are psychological

Many of my clients have tried to lose weight dozens of times before. I consider myself to be a creative and lively therapist and use a unique combination of direct logic, affable honesty and disarming humour to work through what can be very serious, and even life-threatening issues with food, weight and health.

Together, we will answer ‘How will this weight loss attempt be different than all others

Looking at the View

How Psychotherapy for Weight Issues Works

Psychotherapy for weight loss involves significant explorations of issues with food, trauma, other psychological conditions and your relationships with others. Only a very small portion of “psychological” help involves “tips” or “mental tricks” like “drink water before every meal to make you feel satisfied”

A provider’s proficiency in psychotherapy and ability to explain how it works is critical to success in therapy in general and in weight management in specific. In short, effective psychotherapy creates a relationship that allows for unconscious thoughts and feelings of the client and therapist (transference and counter-transference) to be examined, discussed and experimented with in order to create awareness and new patterns of thought and feeling.

The goal of therapy for weight-related issues is to resolve the following conflict: “Long-term weight loss is about making big changes when at present any change seems impossible.”

Clarity of mind creates clarity of strategy and a feeling of control and peaceful thoughts about one’s self and food. Psychotherapy for weight loss, disordered eating, eating disorders and food addiction seeks to create this clarity of mind.
